Black Psychologists in Canada are Very Rare

Outside of my work as an Executive Coach, Career Coach, and HR Consultant, I'm also the Chair of the Black Psychology Section within the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA).

In December 2021, I was one of the five co-founders of the Section and the first Chair-Elect.

During the winter of 2023, when the CPA decided not to collect race-based data, I created a small survey and started to collect the data myself. The results were shocking – only 58 Black people in Canada with an MA, PhD, or PsyD in psychology.

In a country of 40 million, this amounts to none.

The data collection is ongoing, but I'll be surprised if we identify more than 100. Given the post-pandemic need for psychological services, this is a huge problem.

This video provides an overview.
